‘Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)’ – Journey

Having just sat here and watched this video for the first time, I still can’t decide whether I should laugh or turn away until the music stops! I only really looked in to it because of something I heard Alice Cooper say on the radio the other night – something to do with Steve Perry wearing a vest… I think Alice liked the video but, I still sensed an air of sarcasm in his voice.

This song came on the radio quite late on Saturday night, as I was off on one of my head-clearing drives in to the darkness. They usually take me a good hour; anywhere between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare, sticking mostly to the A-roads for speed and fuel consumption. This time, I headed south and, there is a bit of a reason for that.

I may well have to face the reality of ‘letting go’ of someone I care about, very soon. She closed the door almost two weeks ago. I knocked once, to which she didn’t answer and, I’m afraid of ringing the bell again too soon. I fear being blamed for something I still do not understand. I’m not ready to give up but, I may have to accept that there are some things in life that go against our own judgement and views.

So, here is the song. It’s actually been one of my favourite Journey songs since I first heard it in 2009. If you have to, ignore the video and focus on the music! It’s not like any of their most ‘mainstream’ hits, I promise you. I think it’s actually a shortened version…? I thought about finding a live version instead but, even I can’t be bothered to sit through several listenings of this song. 😛

For the lyrics (for which I decided to make this post), please read on below.

Bruce Springsteen – ‘Tunnel of Love’

As I haven’t written anything on these blog for a few days and I’m feeling better than I was for the initial days, I thought I’d share one of my favourite Bruce Springsteen song with you:

Whatever some people may think of ‘The Boss’, this one is much better than the Christmas song they keep playing on Radio 2!

I don’t think I really need to say why I like this one in particular. 🙂

For the lyrics, you’ll have to read on, below.

‘Faithfully’ – by some band…

I haven’t felt much like writing this evening and I find it kind of strange that I feel inclined to post this now, when I should be heading to bed. No new words have appeared on the single page that is currently my short story – due to be shared with the rest of the class in less than eight days’ time! But, on the way to work this morning (it’s been almost twenty-four hours?!), I heard this song on the radio and I wanted to share it with you… Right now. I couldn’t done it earlier but, here you go.

Journey get a lot of stick when, in my opinion, they are (or were) a really good band. I don’t know; they seem to change quite frequently and I remember hearing that their singer (Steve Perry?) left the band again several months ago. I don’t particularly like ‘that song‘, which is one of the sole reasons people tend to despise them, which is also cruel. They are ‘softer’ than many other rock bands and, they do preach a Christian message of faith throughout. But, I think they’re brilliant and, this one song is one of my favourites; something I first heard around the time that I broke up with my ex; a song that inspired me to buy their Greatest Hits album.

I had another favourite before this. Perhaps I’ll share that one on a different day. 😉

Please read on if you’d like to see the lyrics. Oh, and my apologies to anyone who really doesn’t like Journey!! 😛

A New Venture

Today was my first walk with the local group (for ‘young’ people only) that I joined a few weeks ago on a year’s membership. After yesterday’s disappointment, I was looking forward to this, even though I had my anxieties about meeting and interacting with new faces, finding my way and and hoping that my van didn’t break down.

Fate – Do You Believe?

I am planning to complete one of my final 30 Day challenges this weekend but, in the mean time, I’d like to ramble on about something else.

So many people seem to believe in ‘fate‘. I find it hard to; I’d even say that I do not believe and yet, I’m not aware of anyone else I know who feels the same way. When I’ve talked about love and relationships with my counsellor, she’s gone on to end each conversation to say that there is someone out there for me and that I will meet them… How and why hasn’t it already happened?!

Maybe I have the definition all wrong… To me, fate is where you end up following near-pre-determined paths in life that lead to places and situations you are unable to avoid. It’s as if your story’s already been written and you’re acting it out, through each scene and chapter, consciously unaware.
