‘Easter’ – Marillion

This is a song that I’d like to share with you today for two reasons… First, that I heard on the radio earlier during my new-found lunchtime ‘solitude’. Secondly, each and every time I’ve heard this song, it touches me. I found myself at the point of almost shedding a tear; eyes closed, as the realisation came that it was almost time to return to work.

Marillion are a band I hadn’t even heard of before I discovered Planet Rock at Christmas 2009. This is a beautiful song and I can remember how I used to believe that Phil Collins was the singer in this band… Or was that Fish?! To be honest with you; I’m still uncertain as to whether it’s Collins or Peter Gabriel providing the vocals to many Genesis songs! 😛

‘Alone’ – Heart

Another day and a second song for you this week. This one also aired on Radio 2 yesterday but, I was reluctant to ‘spoil’ you all by posting twice in one day…

If I did that then, what reason would you have to be reading this right now?! 😉

So, I’ve now heard this song twice on Radio 2 in the last few months, that I can remember. I hear it more frequently on Planet Rock but, we do not have a DAB radio at work (nor, the intention to change the fecking FM station, or so it seems).

I guess I like my ballads, as much as I am an avid rocker. I always thought that Pat Benatar was the vocalist on this song and within the band but, Wikipedia has taught me otherwise (she also has a great voice).

What else can I say, except that I pay close attention to this song for the warbling cry right after the two-minute mark. It gives me goosebumps, every time. 🙂

I forgot to include the lyrics with the previous song and I’ll amend that shortly. For the lyrics to this song, you’ll have to read on below.

Queensryche – ‘Silent Lucidity’

This is a song I love but don’t listen to often enough. Neither can I name another song from this band although, I’m sure they’re created many over the years. I’m not even sure how to pronounce Queensryche but, it doesn’t matter! 🙂

‘Just Breathe’

I’ve been quite negative with my recent posts and I’ve also written letters to two of my favourite bands and artists. Now though, I’d like to try and lighten the mood a a bit and share with you a song from another of my favourites, Pearl Jam.

I only bought my first album six-years ago but they immediately wrestled Incubus for that elusive top-spot in my mind. Much of their earlier work can be associated with ‘grunge’ but, that’s not to say that anything from the last decade is lacking. It’s different and, above all others right now, this song is one of the most heart-felt (in my opinion anyway).

I’d even go as far as to call this an ‘Eddie Vedder solo’, rather than a complete band effort. If you’re not aware, he is also a solo artist and, yes, I’m a fan of his own work, even though I’m still yet to buy his second album… I first heard this song live on the Tonight with Jay Leno Show (yes, in the UK, we can get CNBC through Freesat). Actually, it might have been Jimmy Fallon, which I don’t regularly watch… Either way, it was covered by another band (I forget!) and their rendition of this 2009 track just opened it up for me.

Enjoy and just breathe. 🙂

PS. I’ve just checked and it was Willie Nelson who covered this song that night – you know, the guy with the long, ginger braided hair; most famous for his appearance in The Simpsons… (Well, that’s how I knew of him, anyway!! :-P)
